Water Rising is a song written by Derrick Southerland, Hillary Lindsey, Jamie Moore and performed by Juliette Barnes in the Season Five episode A Change Would Do You Good.
After receiving a copy of it in the previous episode, which is intended for Maddie, she attempts to get Maddie to leave as she is called to record it but Maddie asks to stay as she wants to hear it, before giving the thumbs up as the song finishes.
She performs it again in the episode The Night Before (Life Goes On) during rehearsals but ends up falling over when her leg starts bothering her again.
She and Maddie Conrad perform it together onstage in the episode You Can't Lose Me.
It is included on The Music of Nashville (Season 5, Volume 3).
Lyrics[]
When's it's swim or sink
When trouble's up ahead
And there ain't nothing left
But gut instinct
To get you out alive
No time for second guessing
Ain't even a question
Hey when the water's rising
When the flood gates open
Ain't no slowing
You're the one I'm fighting
Hey when the sun ain't shining
When it's all about yeah
Stop a second yeah yeah
You're the silver lining
When the water's rising
Well I'm asking you
To try and make it better
Go and change the weather
Just say you'll stay
And ride out the storms with me
'Cause you're the one I want
The only one I need
When I'm in too deep
Hey when the water's rising
When the flood gates open
Ain't no slowing
You're the one I'm fighting
Hey when the sun ain't shining
When it's all about yeah
Stop a second yeah yeah
You're the silver lining
When the water's rising
Hey when the water's rising
When the flood gates open
Ain't no slowing
You're the one I'm fighting
Hey when the sun ain't shining
When it's all about yeah
Stop a second yeah yeah
You're the silver lining
When the water's rising
Hey hey hey when the water
Hey hey hey when the water's rising
When I'm in too deep
You're the only one I need
