I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive is the season finale of the first season of Nashville. It was written and directed by Callie Khouri. It first aired on May 22, 2013.

Plot

Juliette deals with the death of her mother, and Rayna is confronted by Deacon about Maddie being his daughter. After the conversation, he turns to alcohol usage again, after 13 years of sobriety. Teddy's embezzling case is reinvestigated by the U.S. Attorney and he meets Peggy to make sure she doesn't reveal anything incriminating about the case. She then reveals that she's pregnant. Meanwhile, Gunnar and Scarlett deal with their relationship.

At the end of the episode, at Juliette's memorial service for her mother, at the Bluebird, Deacon arrives drunk. Seeing him leave, Rayna chases him out to his car. Deacon wants to be left alone, but Rayna won't let him dirve drunk. As Juliette sings for her mother, we're briefly shown: Gunnar meeting Scarlett in a park, Rayna driving Deacon, Gunnar and Scarlett sitting on a bench, Rayna and Deacon arguing, Will Lexington, seated with a girl, recognising some guy and shaking his head, Gunnar touching Scarlett, Deacon and Rayna arguing, Gunnar proposing to Scarlett on bended knee, Rayna and Deacon both arguing without looking ahead to an intersection where a car is crossing, the car Rayna's driving going off the road, rolling over and landing in a ditch. We hear Gunnar quietly propose, but the arguments and crash are not heard; we just hear Juliette singing, "Nothing In This World Will Ever Break My Heart Again".
