Clare Bowen is an Australian actress who portrays Scarlett O'Connor in country music drama Nashville.
Biography[]
Clare Bowen has enjoyed a flourishing career in film, theatre and television. This Fall, Bowen will work with Academy Award winning Callie Khouri and T-Bone Burnett as she stars as the sweet and talented 'Scarlett O'Connor' in ABC's new series "Nashville," alongside Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere.
Also on the small screen, Bowen has appeared in many of Australia's iconic television dramas, including Seven Network's "Home and Away" and the medical drama "All Saints," as well as "The Cut" and the critically acclaimed comedy "Chandon."
On the feature side, Bowen recently wrapped filming the lead in DEAD MAN'S BURDEN, which set to premiere at the LA Film Festival this June 2012. Shortly after graduating from the University of Wollongong in 2009, Clare was offered a lead role in the highly controversial feature film THE COMBINATION, directed by David Field. This was followed by a major role in feature thriller THE CLINIC, which screened at several international film festivals, and the indie feature NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN, alongside Ryan Kwanten.
A gifted singer, Bowen has also performed in several theatre productions. Most recently, Bowen starred as the lead role of 'Wendla' in the Geordie Brookman-directed rock musical Spring Awakening for Cate Blanchett at the Sydney Theatre Company.
Bowen was born and raised in Australia. She supports the RSPCA, Cancer Council Australia and Camp Quality.

- Clare is a survivor of childhood cancer and has been an Australian Cancer Council Youth Ambassador since 2008. She cut off her hair during Season Four after being inspired by the story of a young child who had terminal cancer.
- Clare is also a singer, securing the role of Wendla Bergman in the Sydney Theatre Company's critically acclaimed 2010 non-replica production of Tony Award winning musical; Spring Awakening, by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik. Directed by Geordie Brookman, choreography by Kate Champion and artistically overseen by Cate Blanchett.
- On December 5, 2015, Clare got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, musician Brandon Robert Young, who proposed during her set at the Grand Ole Opry. They married on October 21, 2017 in Nashville and he briefly appeared in the series finale as Scarlett's fiancé.
